How to fix these common sewing problems

Sewing hiccups. I hate them! Nothing is worse then bring on a great run with a stitch only to find, the thread is bunching at the bottom!

After a couple times of picking out a thread nest you are probably wanting to throw your machine out the window. Stop! These simple trouble shooting tips can help you.

Have you ever suggested restarting a phone or a computer to fix an error? The same goes for your sewing machine. While it might not be as high tech as your smartphone it is still a piece of equipment and needs to be reset every once in a while.

Start with this simple checklist:
  1. Turn off your machine. Sometimes just turning off your machine will help but go ahead and go through the next steps as well.
  2. Rethread your machine. It's pretty common for your tension to be off. It takes 2 seconds for you to rethread your machine once you get the hang of it.
  3. Check if the bobbin area needs to be dusted. I like to use a soft art paint brush. I smoosh the brush into the palm of my hand to spread out the bristles then lightly dust the thread pieces away.
If this doesn't fix the issue you are having there are a couple more things you can try. Take out the bobbin and check to make sure the thread is laying smooth. Then put it back in and make sure it is properly inserted. You can also make sure everything is threaded left. The thread goes through the bobbin going left and you want to make sure you thread your needle from right to left too.

Hope these tips help. Remember to step away if you need to. Sewing machine issues can be so frustrating and you don't want to take it out on your quilt top!
